Donetsk
It is a large industrial center of Ukraine. The oblast is situated in the southeastern part of Ukraine. In the east it partially borders on the Russian Federation. In the south the oblast has access to the seas of the Mediterranean basin.
The region has a continental climate characterized by hot and dry summer and relatively cold winter with unstable snow cover.
There are picturesque places and medicinal deposits in the Donetsk region. The Slaviansk salt lakes and mineral water springs are of balneological significance. There are two reserves of the national value in the oblast: the Khomutovska steppe and the Sviatogorie. The Azov Sea coast is the recreational area unsurpassed for its health-improvement effect.
As the main iron and coal region in the former USSR, Donetsk was rebuilt and expanded quickly during industrialization.
Well-developed road, rail, air and telecommunications networks, together with the Mariupol Sea Port access to the Mediterranean-Black Sea Basins make Donetsk Region the most dynamic business location in Ukraine.
The strategic location of Donetsk Region provides the availability of a well educated, highly skilled and competitive cost workforce.
Now Donetsk is a major industrial, scientific and cultural center with a population of more then 1 million today.
There are 3 theatres, a Philharmonic Hall, a planetarium, 29 museums and 500 libraries in the city.
Donetsk has become one of the most beautiful Ukrainian cities.
