Poltava

Poltava is located in the heart of Ukraine, and to say that this city belongs to one of the most beautiful historical cities of our country, with its green, clean and cozy streets, parks, lakes and forests around it, is to say nothing at all! There are numerous Universities, colleges and high schools, that keeps Poltava always crowded with young people.

During World War II, Poltava was captured and held from October 18, 1941 until September 23, 1943. Naturally, the town was reduced to ruins by the bombing and street battles.

Today, Poltava boasts a territory of 80,000 square kilometers and a population of about 315,000 people. As for Ukraine, it is a middle-sized town. But every town or city has its distinctive features by which you can recognize it when you're standing on the sidewalk, listening to a speech, or even looking down on it from a plane. If you flew over Poltava, you'd see a large green circle with streets dispersing from it like the rays of the sun. The green circle is a central park, the heart of town. Two streets cross it lying perpendicular to one another, so the park seems to consist of four quarters. An iron column with an eagle on top is a monument that stands in the middle of the park. You can stand beside the monument and say with certainty, "I'm in the very center of Poltava."

The downtown of Poltava is the oldest and most beautiful part of town, where you will find many interesting places. Most of the buildings that stand there were built during the nineteenth century and in the first decade of the twentieth century. Several shops, offices, and restaurants are situated there, so the streets are never empty--even in the evening.

Each season Poltava has different beautiful view, and every time you'll see it in new, but all the time romantic expression.
